What is personal branding photography?

Personal branding photography provides high-quality imagery for entrepreneurs to advance their brand, tell their story and connect with their audience on a personal level to grow their business.

When done well, these photos will showcase your unique personality and can be used in a variety of ways throughout your website, social media and other marketing platforms!

Branding photography is all about capturing who you are, what you provide, and what makes your brand unique—from headshots, your workspace, creative process, tools of your trade, and much more!

In short, personal branding photography helps you:

  • Tell your story
  • Connect with your audience
  • Grow your business

Why is personal branding photography so important for my business?

Whether your business has been established for multiple years or you’re just now launching from ground zero, branding photography benefits your business for a number of reasons:

  1. These custom images visually show current and potential clients who you are, what you do, and why you do it.
  2. With these personalized images, you will have content that empowers you to show up in your social media and other marketing channels more consistently.
  3. With the stress of finding or capturing images taken off of your shoulders, you will be able to focus your time and energy into the other areas of your business where you shine!

What kind of photos should I be taking during my personal branding photoshoot?

There are so many ways you can stand out as your best self in your branding photoshoot—whether that be through posing, wardrobe, props, location, or style!

Here are a few of my favorites to help you get your photo list started as you prepare for your shoot:

1. High-quality headshots.

An absolute staple on any shot list is a quality photo of you smiling at the camera. For variety, take some of your gorgeous face, half body and full body! And guess what? It doesn’t have to be a traditional headshot if that doesn’t fit your style! Some can be you looking at the camera and others can be you looking away laughing. You can use color, setting, wardrobe and more to perfectly capture your personality and show your audience who you really are!

2. Showcasing your workspace.

Your audience wants to see where the magic happens! So show it off, whether it’s your kitchen, your desk, your back porch, a coffee shop, your car or full office space…anything goes. Remember, it doesn’t have to be the most beautiful or artistic workspace—it should just reflect YOU!

3. Using the tools of your trade.

What are your go-to supplies? Including these in your branding shoot can help paint a better picture for your client of what it might look like when they work with you. A few ‘tools of the trade’ could include a sewing machine, cloth swatches, art supplies, planner, writing/drawing utensils, makeup brushes, etc…the list can go on and on!

4. Embracing your uniqueness.

What makes you different and interesting? Do you love to craft, collect coffee mugs, meditate with crystals, or maybe have a hidden talent? So embrace what makes you special because your prospective customers and clients will embrace it too!

5. Capturing empty space to market your business.

Lastly, snapping photos that include some blank space is helpful for when you need to share knowledge or inspiration with your audience. This is a great way to show your face and share information you want others to know. A few ideas for marketing photos include inspirational quotes, sharing knowledge about your service, customer review, or upcoming offer.
